Working direct with Selfridges & Co of Oxford Street, London, Utile designed and built a duty/standby natural gas booster package to supply elevated gas pressure into the new ring main feeding their newly refurbished kitchens and CHP Plant. Complications were met in that the system had to be designed to fit into the existing pipework system and be located in a particular place in the basement plant room. A reduced footprint package was designed with pipework orientation to suit, making install efficient and easy for the main contractor on site.

Using their Utile Model 876 single stage, centrifugal gas boosters, Natural Gas at a maximum flow rate of 854Sm3/hr was boosted up to 50mbarg using 4.0kW WEG, ATEX motors. Acoustic shrouds were fitted to maintain a 72db’A’ noise level and the Utile ‘Smartdrive’ control system was installed with ABB inverters to maintain precise discharge pressure, whilst operating at the lowest speed possible, thus reducing the absorbed power to a minimum.
