As part of Thames Water Utilities Ltd, AMP6 Capital Delivery, Utile were selected to partner Costain Eight 2 0 to deliver the Biogas Mixing System in the Imported Liquid Sludge Tank, forming part of the Basingstoke THP Project.
The scope of works was to design, build, deliver, install, test and commission a duty/standby air compressor package and tank mixing system for continuous diffuser feed in the Aerobic Digester.
The Utile continuous aerobic, diffused leaf spring, air mixing system was bespoke designed to mix the specialist Imported Liquid Sludge Tank for the new THP sludge processing system. The advantage of this system over others, is that it helps with the reduction and control of H2S in the digestion process feeding in to the CHP Plant as well as providing efficient sludge mixing with improved gas yield.
It comprised duty/standby Utile Model D70 oil free, sliding vane, air compressors to deliver biogas at an elevated pressure of 0.85bar(g) only requiring 3.7kW absorbed power to impart 37 W/m3 in the 100m3 tank. That being way in excess of the 15w/m3 specified and all strictly to Thames Water Specifications on time and on budget.
The project was delivered and installed in February 2017 with successful commissioning in June 2017.
