Utile at IWEX 2009

Gas Holders for Severn Trent Water
Contracted by May Gurney, Utile have recently supplied, installed and commissioned 3No. Sattler double membrane gas holders for Severn Trent Water at Newtown, Coalport and Monkmoor STW, sized at 270, 270 and 330m3 respectively.

Pictured is the gas holder for Newtown STW. All 3 units are mounted on raised concrete plinths to protect the plant from flooding and to allow above ground gas pipe work.

The air blowers, gas pipes and condensate traps are also supplied by Utile. These gas holders compliment the Utile gas mixing systems, site pipe work, gas boosters and gas compressors already installed on these sites.

Commissioning of Newtown and Monkmoor is complete, with Coalport to follow in September 2008 soon after.

Gas Holders for Severn Trent Water

Black & Veatch choose Utile
Fully packaged, ATEX compliant gas booster packages have been designed and supplied by Utile to three separate Water Authorities for Black & Veatch projects.

Ashford WwTW
A single 125/3A multistage centrifugal gas booster set valued at 35K, delivering 983Nm3/hr of Biogas at 250mbarg. With 22kw variable speed drive this set is designed to provide Southern Water with back up to the Natural Gas supply feeding the dual fuel burner for their new dryer plant.

Bishop Stortford STW
Duty standby 90/3A multistage centrifugal gas boosters, valued at 28K, delivering 276Nm3/hr of Biogas at 100mbarg. With 3kw installed power the gas is fed to the CHP Engine and boilers for Thames Water.

Additional Model 700, duty standby, single stage biogas boosters have also been supplied at 15.5K to flow 137Nm3/hr to the Waste Gas Burner.

Cotton Valley WwTW
An Anglian Water site, operating a duty standby 125/3A multistage centrifugal gas booster package to feed 784Nm3/hr of Biogas to the CHP and Boilers at 114mbarg, driven by 7.5kW motors with acoustic enclosures reducing the noise level to 70db’A’ at 1mtr free field, at a value of 51K.

Claymills STW
Utile have recently completed a 201K upgrade of the gas system on the 4No. digesters in partnership with A.C Chester Ltd as part of Severn Trent Water's AMP4 digester refurbishment program.

The contract had many facets including the installation of a continuous digester gas mixing system in Digester No.1, design and installation of gas collection pipe work between the digesters to the new gas holder, and off-takes to boilers, CHP and flare.

Our brief was to ensure the plant remained operational at all times, thus requiring existing gas pipe work to remain in service until final tie-ins could be achieved.

Minworth STW
Utile have recently completed the supply and installation of 16No. Utile Model L240HP air cooled gas compressor packages to Severn Trent Water as part of their AMP4 digester improvement program, through the Biwater North Midland Alliance.

The contract valued at 373K, involved the removal of existing non compliant digester gas mixing compressors and installation of our UK manufactured, ATEX compliant units over a 14 month period with the final compressors being commissioned in November 2007 on time and on budget.

Shah Cement Power Ltd
Utile have recently designed and manufactured an MD920HP water cooled Gas Compressor Package to operate 2No. 5.8MW Caterpillar G16CM34 reciprocating natural gas engines for Shah Cement in their Bangladesh facility.

In normal operation the 90kW compressor set is bypassed and mains Natural Gas at 4Barg feeds the engines. Periods of reduced gas pressure from the mains supply require the Utile gas compressor package to supplement that pressure, ensuring continuous power generation for the plant.

Commissioning of the plant is planned for mid 2008.
